................ In the late 1940's the people of Volente decided that they wanted
a church. Everyone who was contacted offered to help. Collections were
taken up, donations solicited, and the men and women of Volente literally
built their church on top of "Church Hill", on land donated by Hiram Reed.
I claim the honor of having suggested the name of the church - "The First
Lakeview Church". The first Easter service in this church will always stand
out in my memory. My young, two year old daughter, like her two older sisters,
was decked out in her Easter finery. The visiting preacher said to the
two year old, "Eddyth, you look beautiful in your pretty dress." With that,
young Eddyth promptly turned her little bottom up and said, "But you didn't
see the ruffles on my panties." Needless to say, that Easter Service was
anything but somber. ..................
