Geotech Sampling Expected to Begin in Volente Area

Beginning approximately Saturday, May 19, 2007, residents and visitors in the Volente area will see a barge moored on Lake Travis near lot 68 just off Booth Circle. The barge will contain geotechnical equipment to collect samples from the lakebed. It is part of research being done to select a site for a new deep-water intake structure for the Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority, a joint project of Cedar Park, Leander, and Round Rock. The barge sampling operation is occurring sooner than originally anticipated because the geotechnical drilling barge is already in the area working on a City of Austin project near Oasis Bluff. The work is projected to take approximately two weeks. The barge will not be operational during the Memorial Day weekend.

The cities of Cedar Park, Leander, and Round Rock have created the Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority to meet the immediate and future water demands of customers for these three cities. The participating cities will share the costs of building the raw water intake structure, a distribution system, and treatment facilities. Officials with the Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority are currently discussing this project with Volente's elected officials, residents, and other interested persons.  If you would like more information about the sampling work or the Brushy Creek Regional Utility project, please call Project Director Chris Lippe at 844-7419.

The Volente Neighborhood Association has indicated to these three cities that we are not supportive of this location for this water line and water intake.
