VNA Annual Meeting Tuesday April 24, 2001
The Volente Neighborhood Association will hold its annual general
membership meeting on April 24th at the VVFD Community Center at 15406
FM 2769, across from VJs. Refreshments will be served at 6:30PM, with the
meeting beginning at 7:00PM.
Special Guest Speaker From LCRA
Jim Richardson, LCRA Water Surface Management, will present information
on the proposed licensing of private boat docks as well as proposed changes
to the Highland Lakes Marina Ordinance. Both topics should be of interest
to Volente residents. During the question/answer period, Mr. Richardson
can address any questions regarding water surface management, including
LCRA boating regulations.
VNA Elections To Be Held
The VNA board of directors consists of nine members, elected to
one-year terms at the annual general membership meeting. After elected,
the new board will elect its officers - President, Vice President, Secretary
and Treasurer - from among the board members who were elected by the general
membership.
The requirements to be eligible for the board are the same to be
eligible to hold Voting Membership; that is, own property or reside in
the membership area, be 18+ years of age and be current on membership dues.
There is normally one membership and one vote per household, but adult
individuals residing in the same household may purchase separate individual
voting memberships, if desired.

Developments on Cypress Creek Worry Neighbors
On March 21, 2001 VNA representatives met with representatives of Twin
Creeks Holdings and officials from Cedar Park to discuss concerns. Those
concerns included fears of possible pollution of Cypress Creek and the
Cypress Creek arm of Lake Travis by the proposed upstream housing and golf
course. Many residents have either alluvial wells along Cypress Creek or
draw water from Lake Travis nearby.
The planned sewage lift station will be very near one of the main
tributaries on Cypress Creek. The design of the sewage lift station, which
apparently meets regulations, might allow as little as one hour from the
time a failure alarm should go off until a spill would overflow into the
creek. In addition, the neighbors expressed concern that the current design
for non-point source pollution remediation might not be sufficient to clean
up all the herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers from the golf course
operation as well as from the over 1600 homes planned for the Cypress Creek
watershed. As a result of the meeting, the developer did agree to consider
regular water quality testing and possible design changes to the lift station.
Stay tuned!
