Important Meeting on the Future of Volente Fire Department to be Held on Tuesday, October 19, 1999
The meeting will be held at the Volente Fire Department / Community Center. It begins 7:00 PM, but please come at 6:30 PM for refreshments and socializing before the meeting.
All residents and property owners in the Volente area should attend this very important meeting. The topic will be the November 2nd ballot item calling for the conversion of Volente's status as a Rural Fire District (RFD#11) to an Emergency Services District (ESD#14).
Volente’s fire department is the only one remaining in Travis County that is not now funded by an ESD. Without an ESD, Volente VFD may not have enough funds to adequately protect your lives and property in the future.

Guest Speaker Will Be John Murphy
John Murphy is President of the Travis County Firefighters Association and also Deputy Chief of Travis County Fire Control (TCFC / ESD#4). Mr. Murphy was with TCFC when it converted from a Rural Fire District to an Emergency Services District and will share his fire department's reasons and experiences with us. In addition, Richard Wood, a board member of the Volente VFD, and Jan Yenawine, President of the Rural Fire District #11 Commissioners, will present information about the Volente fire department and the proposed Emergency Services District for our area. After presentations, a panel discussion will be held to answer questions from the audience.

Why Come to the Meeting?
1) The future of fire protection and emergency services in the Volente area is at stake;
2) The tax rate for fire protection can be increased from its current level under an ESD.
ESD Election Will Be Nov. 2, 1999
We reported in the August edition that VNA was successful in helping gather signatures for the petition regarding creating an ESD for Volente. The validated petitions were turned into the Rural Fire District 11 Commissioners, who have called for an election to take place on November 2, 1999. Be sure you vote FOR the ESD on Election Day! LCRA Announces Proposed Regulations for Lake Travis - Lake Travis Neighborhood Council Is Stakeholder
As reported in the August edition, a group of Lake Travis residents have formed the Lake Travis Neighborhood Council. Volente Neighborhood Association is one of more than 25 organizations participating in LTNC. The council will provide a forum for area neighborhood associations to share information and ideas and to pool their resources in dealing with common issues.
LTNC has been selected by LCRA to be one of the "stakeholder groups" reviewing the proposed regulations for Lake Travis. For more information on LTNC, see

Curbside Recycling? Not!
Following up on the August article, VNA board member Catriona Smith now reports that Midtex Waste, Inc. cannot provide Volente residents with curbside recycling after all. It seems the distance to the recycling center is too great and the current value of recycled materials is too low to provide this service. Too bad!

Postal Service Change to Cedar Park Still Being Considered
As reported in the August newsletter, the United States Post Office is still considering changing Volente's mail delivery service from Leander to the Cedar Park Post Office. Reportedly, Cedar Park is going to send out a survey soon to ask residents how they feel about the proposed change.
For more information, see the August newsletter or  http://www.volente.org/postoffice/ or contact VNA  board member Erika Mott at 258-6901 or e-mail: bfbr@flash.net
