Fire Department Petition for ESD Needs Your Signature
VNA is helping Volente Volunteer Fire Department gather signatures for a petition regarding creating an Emergency Services District (ESD). The petition will allow a ballot item so voters can then approve instituting the ESD. The ESD will replace the current funding mechanism, which is Rural Fire District 11. Volente’s fire department is the only one remaining in Travis County that is not now funded by an ESD. Without an ESD, Volente VFD will not have enough funds to adequately protect your lives and property.
VNA members attending the April General Membership meeting heard an explanation and an appeal from VVFD board member, Richard Wood. Approximately 30 signatures were obtained at the VNA meeting, but more are needed.
Petitions are at VJs Cafe across from the fire hall, or volunteers will be happy to bring one by your home. Just call Jerry Adams, 449-4470, or Lonnie Moore, 258-0892. For more information on the Volente VFD and the ESD, see http://www.volente.org/vvfd/.

VNA General Membership Meeting a Success
At least 80 residents packed the Volente Fire Department / Community Center on April  6, 1999 for the annual VNA General Membership Meeting. VNA members got to meet our new Travis County Judge, Sam Biscoe. Judge Biscoe gave a short  talk and then answered questions from the audience.
John Kuhl of Travis County gave a slide presentation and lecture on the Balcones Canyonlands Conservation Plan (BCCP). Judging by the questions from the VNA audience, many members were surprised by many aspects of the Plan, including requirements in many areas for obtaining permits before clearing land. VNA has posted the County’s BCCP brochure on our web site. Just click on “BCCP Information” on the main web page, or go directly to http://www.volente.org/docs/bccp.html.
