Minutes - Minutes from the December meeting were reviewed and approved.(JM/SM)

Treasurer’s Report: AC-S reported balance of $3,745.01.

Post Office – Maurice Dunn

The preliminary results of the survey of 78641 were majority opposed, and the survey of 78726 has been extended, as reported by LM.Mr. Dunn confirmed that Cedar Park is recounting the votes, and he expects them to accept the results.Cedar Park needed a 53% turn out in their favor, and the results were 53% opposed. Now there can be no more zip code boundary changes in this area for 10 years.
There is no possibility of Volente having a unique zip code, but we can use Volente as the place name.

Mr. Dunn spoke to Nora Flores at the headquarters in San Antonio about contract post offices, and the possibility of one in Volente. He gave the board a handout that addressed the requirements and services that may be provided. Some of the requirements were a minimum of 100-sq. ft. of dedicated space, adequate counter space, a surety bond for the person holding the contract, and a safe. There was some uncertainty about whether alcohol could be sold on the premises, but he was fairly sure that it could not be consumed on the premises.Mr. Dunn said he would check into the issue, and get back to us with a more definitive answer. We also discussed the recent problem our area has had with vandalism of mailboxes.Mr. Dunn said that if the mail isn’t taken out of the mailbox then it is up to the Sheriff to deal with, however, once the mail is removed it is reported to the Postal Inspector. He also said that if Volente incorporates it doesn’t automatically give it a Post Office of its own.

Sandy Creek Marina (JA)

LM reported that, per the board motion of the December meeting, he sent a letter to Jim Richardson at LCRA stating VNA’s position on the proposed restaurant on Sandy Creek Marina. The letter informed Mr. Richardson that the VNA is opposed to the construction, and the statement Mr. Richardson said during a previous meeting; that this change was not a significant change, and didn’t warrant public notice.Mr. Richardson has since told LM that LCRA has concluded that it is a substantive change, and will go through the standard public hearing process.JA will contact Jim Richardson for confirmation. JA reports that other neighborhood associations affected want to stop the construction of the restaurant.

LCRA Stakeholder’s Committee (JM/AC-S)
There will be a public meeting Tuesday January 11th from 6:00 to 9:30PM at Lake Travis Elementary School.JM expressed opinion of inadequate results from the Stakeholder’s Committee.JA suggested the possibility of more news media coverage, News 8 already giving it airtime.Mixed feeling from others about the recommendations.LM thinks the residents might think the recommendations could have been stronger, especially in the area of marinas.General feeling that it is good that LCRA is making an effort to address these things.

Dredging in Sunlight Cove (JM)

There is 11 acres in the cove between Geromino and Pocohontas that was sold last summer. The new owners approached some of the neighbors (including JM) regarding dredging the cove, and stated they planned to build one or two homes on the property. The neighbors were not too keen on the idea, and asked for more information.A letter was received by a man none of them had spoken to before. This letter basically said that if the new owners could not do what they needed to obtain more useful water frontage, they might put in manufactured homes, (trailers). The group asked again for more information, like more specifics about plans for the property.

VVFD(JA/LM)
The names of the two new VVFD firefighters have been forwarded to LM.There is a new dispatch system for the 911 calls. It is now answered 24 hours a day by a service hired by the VVFD.There will be a change is Fire Commissioners in January.Jan Yenawine and Carmen Siem will be at the end of their term.LM and Lou Fryler will be taking their places. Those positions are appointed by Travis County Commissioner Sonleitner.

Membership:151 members paid in 1999 plus one paid for 2000.

Voting Boundary Change:Registered voters on Bullick Hollow Road and on Volente Rd. from Bullick Hollow to 620 have been moved to voting precinct 208 and will now vote at VVFD.

Sign at Bullick Hollow: SM feels the group of signs at Volente Road/Bullick Hollow does not look very attractive, and asked about a way to make them look neater, such as a community sign. JA pointed out cost.
