Robert James Freeman, 66, peacefully passed away August 24, 2011 while in the loving care of The Lighthouse at Altenheim Hospice in Round Rock, Texas after having had all of his beloved family alongside him. Robert was born July 11, 1945 in Alameda, California. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Dianna; their son and daughter, Larry and Mindy; son-in-law, Josh; two grandsons who lit up his life, Graham and Grayson; two sisters, Nancy Williams of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, and Mary Dailey of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and numerous other loving relatives and a host of friends. Robert served in the Army National Guard in Oklahoma and Missouri for the period 1966-1972, achieving the rank of E4-Specialist. For 25 years, Robert was Regional Manager for Shoe Corporation of America.
Leaving his most lasting legacy, Robert owned and operated VJ's, a grocery store and restaurant in Volente, Texas from 1986-2008 with his wife, Dianna, and brother-in-law, Roland. The family wishes to express its deepest gratitude to the Volente community for its outpouring of care, concern and support.
The family also gives special thanks to Dr. Ryan P. Charbeneau and the wonderful nurses of Room 449 at St. David's North Austin Medical Center. And a very special thanks to our wonderful friend, Allison Thrash, for your support and guidance through this process. We love you with all our hearts. In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy, if so inclined, the family respectfully suggests donations be made to The Lighthouse at Altenheim Hospice in Round Rock, Texas.
