October 2008
Greetings!

For many years, I have been helping both the Volente Volunteer Fire Department and the Volente Neighborhood Association keep residents aware of local goings-on via email. The software programs I had used became obsolete and we are now switching over to this new service.
The new service allows more flexibility, including the ability to include images. It also allows for you to easily unsubscribe, change your email address, or add additional addresses.
Both VVFD and VNA are non-profit service organizations and our communications are intended to be non-intrusive and non-commercial in nature. Your email address is not shared with any other groups or individuals. We will occasionally forward messages from other groups if we think they are of interest to our residents. We hope you will choose to continue to receive our messages and that they provide value. If you know anyone in Volente who is not receiving the Volente e-News messages, encourage them to subscribe at www.volente.org or by emailing news@volente.org.

Hint: If your email service or program includes spam filtering, you may need to put both news@volente.ccsend.com and news@volente.org on your "Allow List" to ensure continued receipt.
Volente's National Night Out Great Fun
National Night Out Photo
Several dozen residents joined us at the Volente Fire Department on Tuesday evening, October 7th for National Night Out. VVFD President Al Blunt manned the grill, cooking hot dogs for all, which were served by volunteers from the Auxiliary. The kids had great fun spraying fire-supressing foam from one of our fire trucks.
Photos of the event are posted at
Thanks to everyone who participated!

Halloween Comes to Bullick Hollow

Pumpkin on Post PhotoAl Blunt, who lives on Bullick Hollow Road, says it must be the pumpkin fairies. Others say the Great Pumpkin has been at work, or maybe just a mischievous Volente resident that loves Halloween.
At any rate, a number of bright orange jack-o-lanterns have mysteriously appeared along Bullick Hollow Road. With summer lasting so long, we needed something to help get us in the spirit.

Subject: Volente Food Drive for Hurricane Ike Victims

Hi All;
Just got back from the food bank and I have great news.  Our food drive donated 1,275 pounds of food and the way they calculate it, this total equals 1,020 meals.
Way to go Volente residents!

Have a great day.
Al Blunt
Burn Ban Continues
Burn Ban In Effect Sign
The Great Pumpkin and the VVFD remind you that a county-wide burn ban is in effect. NO outdoor burning!

Now, sooner or later it will rain again (we promise) and the burn ban will be lifted by the County commissioners. You may be tempted to do some controlled burning at that time. Before doing so, please read the Controlled Burn Guidelines posted at www.vvfd.net, the official VVFD website. There you will also see a Controlled Burn Permit form that you can download.  Please read the information carefully and contact VVFD at 258-1114 before proceeding.
